Two approaches to meanings A. Aristotle (4th c. BC) Separate words have meanings. The meaning of a sentence is the result of combining the meanings of the words in it. The meaning of a sentence is the embodiment of all the separate meanings of the words which make up the sentence; they are bound to each other and determine each other. 3 B. Abdul Q¯ ahir al-Jurj¯ an¯ ı (Persia, 11th c) Meanings are expressed primarily in sentences. Individual words have meanings, but the meaning of a word is not detachable from the roles it plays in sentences. Dal¯ ail p. 316 When you say 'Zaid beat up Amran last Friday', you present not the meanings of the separate words but the connections between these meanings in the sentence.

Many papers have been written about “moral obligation”; however, dissociating the area of sema...
متن کاملReducing Dimensions of Tensors in Type-Driven Distributional Semantics
Compositional distributional semantics is a subfield of Computational Linguistics which investigates methods for representing the meanings of phrases and sentences. In this paper, we explore implementations of a framework based on Combinatory Categorial Grammar (CCG), in which words with certain grammatical types have meanings represented by multilinear maps (i.e. multi-dimensional arrays, or t...

Man has always been finding a complete model for semantics since the beginning. A model which can as a paradigm affects all branches of sciences. In the view of author, such a model can be found in Golshane Raz. Introducing the model from the work mentioned, the paper has tried to explain its sub structural foundations in three fields of ontology, epistemology and semantics. Some of the foundat...
متن کاملSemantics of haq in the Glorious Quran

Semantics is concerned with meaning: what meanings are, how meanings are assigned to words, phrases and sentences of natural and formal languages, and how meanings can be combined and used for inference and reasoning. The goal of this chapter is to introduce computational linguists and computer scientists to the tools, methods, and concepts required to work on natural language semantics. Semant...
